1. Get a new black dress (you should have several).
2. Shop vintage or consignments shops, they have great gems, all you need is patience.
3. Get something you already have altered (i.e. make long jacket short, change buttons on a shirt, jacket or dress)
4. Add new accessories, they spice up any outfit.
5. Brighten things up, all fall/winter wardrobe doesn't have to consist of blacks, browns & grays, what's your favorite bright color? If you don't have one, get one and add it to your outfit. This can be done with a belt, earrings, scarf, hosiery, etc.
6. Select two colors that you don't currently have or have little of in your closet, add a piece or two.
7. Change your attitude, attitude is 90% of everything!

Tidbits about Color
Did you know?
Red is an eye-catching, powerful color.
Black can be either associated with doom and gloom or it can be sleek and sensual
Purple is associated with Royalty
As bright as it is, yellow can conjure up angry or hurt feelings
Green has been known to make your relax because it is the easiest on the eye.
This one surprised me, pink makes you feel tired.
If you are trying to release weight, eat in blue settings, red is known to increase the appetite.
And Remember, the meaning of colors differ around the globe.
Have fun with it!

8 Million Dollar Image
Have you heard the latest craze in fashion? Come in and listen closely. Cookie Johnson (Wife of Magic Johnson) has a new jean line at Nordstrom. There is nothing better than a great fitting pair of jeans that fit your curves and you feel comfortable in them and based on the reviews, this line has achieved both.
As an Image Consultant and Personal Shopper it is my aim to please my clients on every level. And although many are interested in either professional, business and/or business casual attire. Almost every woman wants that perfect pair of jeans.
Nordstrom has done it again, they do a phenomenal job at offering quality items that almost anyone can fit into their budget. (Even if you wait for the half-yearly sale)! I thought their Jag jeans line was great, but I understand these are even better! Fashion and personal style is not only about looking good, but also feeling good and it appears these jeans have conquered this not so easy feat.
And the names of her jeans have to make you feel great too, with wearing names such as Love, Grace, Faith & Joy, you can't go wrong.
Kudos to Cookie and Nordstrom for making this possible.

A Splash of Color
Who knew orange, yellow & fuchsia would be the new black? Okay, that might be a little extreme, but who hasn't seen a splash of color brighten an outfit, your office or even your day?
Although I love bright colors on bright sunny days, it is even more important to wear a splash of color on a dreary day. It brightens moods and outlooks. Case and point. This week in the Washington, D.C. Metro area, it rained for five straight days, count them, five. So each day I wore a different bright colored trench or jacket. Walking on the train platform I noticed a few other bold ladies. Some brightness amongst all that black and beige. One gentleman said, oh I love what you do with color. So it made his day and mine.
Don't be afraid to experiment. Even if you work in a conservative, professional environment. A little color never hurt a dress code. It could be your tie or socks (men), or your jewelry, handbag, shell under your suit or a belt. Test different colors (and shades of color) next to your skin and see which ones look good against your skin tone.
Think about adding color to your work space so you can whistle while you work. I won a door prize once, it is a simple set of attached blocks, it's fuchsia, lime green & orange. I keep it on my desk at work, it adds a little color to my office. I place my paper clips, binder clips and small note pads in them. It's fun and quirky, add colored paper clips or post-it notes. What's your favorite color? Get a vase, marbles, canister or the such like and place it on your desk, it's a great idea for the perfect splash of color.
Did it not do you good to see colorful trench coats emerge? Gone are the days where a trench is either black or beige... oh, how dreadful. Don't get me wrong, I still have both, but I tend to gravitate towards the colorful ones these days and it does make a difference when skies are dark and gray.
Pastels are wonderful, but why not try something new for the Spring/Summer, get your favorite color in an accessory or try a bold color that's close to or compliments your fav. Go on, what are you afraid of, what are you waiting for? It doesn't have to break the bank, get something small. Go ahead make your day or week and I promise you, you will get noticed. Be creative, be unique. Color can make a world of difference and may even get you noticed. Don't want the attention, then let it just make you feel great.
Remember, when you look good, you feel good and .... Image does count!

Spring...I think
Only in the Mid-Atlantic (OK and Northeast) can you go through three seasons in one week. I absolutely love and hate Spring. I love the weather, everything blooming (except for allergies) and new bright fashions on the horizon. The hate part is that you see every type of attire for almost all seasons. We've gone through three seasons in less than 10 days. Last Monday it was 67 degrees and raining, by Sunday it was Sunny and 90 degrees, today (Wednesday) back to the 60's.
I have seen everything from wool coats to halter tops & flip flops. What's ironic is that it appears that many folks don't bother to listen to the weather forecast. During Spring and Fall, it is imperative that one listen to the weather forecast because it can be an array of temperatures in a one week span. Summer and Winter, you simply select from the same group of clothes.
That's why it is important to have what I call 'transitional' clothes. Meaning 'all-weather' items. Such as cotton/polyester blends. For the ladies, Spring is a good time to make use of the silks in your wardrobe, the pumps, sling backs and peep toe shoes. We've ditched (for the most part), the boots and it's not quite time for strappy sandals and flip flops. In the clothes department, it's a good time for light weight suits and dresses. Or you can even wear some of your three-season suits with a lighter shell (i.e. tank top or short sleeves) just in case it gets warm in the afternoon.
Every wardrobe should have a light weight trench, a short jacket or a light weight (short) leather jacket. Use color to your advantage, couple that blue, navy or gray suit with a pop of yellow, orange, fuchsia or lime.
As a rule of thumb, during Spring, take a peek at the weather forecast the night before or the morning of. I can't tell you how silly folks looked on Monday with a wool coat and it was 90 degrees and today with a sleeveless top, no jacket, flip flops and it's 67 degrees. Basically, one should not go 'All Summer' with their wardrobe until mid-late June. That's when it gets hot and stays hot. Before then anything temperature can happen, so be prepared and dress accordingly.

Welcome to Spring
The birds are chirping, the days are getting longer and that wool coat is a little too warm some days. It makes you think, what do I have in my closet for Spring/Summer. Today's post is to aid you in finding creative ways to spruce up your wardrobe. More of a Checklist:
-Do you have that ever so necessary 'little black dress'?
-What about that crisp white button down, no-iron white shirt?
-And the proverbial black pants (several pair)
-Add a touch of color, something bold and vibrant. You can do this with a shell under a suit, a trench for the Spring, or a strappy sandal for the summer, or even with a nice eye shadow or lip color.
-A navy, cotton or linen blend, versatile jacket is a great staple for the summer, you can dress it up or go casual with it.
-How about those white crop pants (otherwise known as Capris) or the walking shorts that you can couple with a jacket and wear on casual Friday. (Be sure that they're knee-length).
-A nice chain or colorful belt can change the look of any outfit.
Remember, just as everyone shouldn't wear leggings and one size does NOT fit all, everyone cannot wear the new trend 'jumpsuit'...be mindful of your body shape and make certain that it's a good fit if you dare. Also, don't buy 'all' the new trends, just grab one or two that will work for you. Play up your good features, we all have some!
In this economically depressing time, make yourself 'look' good and I guarantee it will aid in you 'feeling' good. Image & Etiquette is Everything!

A Date with your Closet
Happy New Year!
It's a new day and a new year. One more day to get it right, (on many levels), lets start with your closet. Don't wait for spring cleaning, tackle your closet organization today!
Where do I start?
Purchase a portable clothes rack, (if that's not an option, lay them on your bed in neat piles), it's easier to see them on a clothes rack. Create three categories: 1. Give away, 2. Throw away,
3. Keep. Remove a section of your clothes at a time. If it doesn't fit, you haven't worn it in two years and it is in good condition, get a tax write off by giving it to the thrift store, purple heart, or salvation army. Or you can have a swap party. If it is in disrepair, throw it away, please. Keep your classics, anything that fits that you know you'll wear again, and items you're wearing currently. Through this process, you'll re-discover some forgotten treasures.
Organize by season and then by color. (I go into a little more detail when performing a closet analysis), but at least this will get you somewhat organized. Selecting attire for the day will be a cinch.
I'm offering buy one get one free, that's buy one hour of Consultation time, get one free. Take advantage of this offer, it won't last long. This can be for closet analysis, color analysis, body shape analysis & suggestions, image update, or shopping.
Start the year off better, different or right. Organize space creates an organzied mind which results in better decision making.
